If we could........we should

If we could reduce the amount of inputs going into lawns by helping to create the healthiest soil possible, we should!

Each year, the United States can use approximately 90 million tons of fertilizers to keep lawns "green" and growing.

If we could reduce the amount of water used for lawn irrigation, we should!

If we could help build the existing soil structure naturally, we should!

Microbes seem to be the unsung hero when it comes to all things soil:

  • Microbes carry the nutrients up through the root systems in a process called the Rhizophagy Cycle.  See Dr. James White (Rutgers) video.

  • Microbes are key in the decomposition phase in soil health

  • Microbes create the biotic glues that form the aggregates that allow water, nutrient and air infiltration as well as creating soil structure.

Here is how "We Could" start:

Soil Tests - Soil test that show the Cation Exchange Capacity or CEC# along with the macro and micronutrient levels are the most informative.

Microbes are a requirement to move the nutrients from the soil to the plants and grasses via the root system.  See the video with Dr. James White talking about the Rhizophagy Cycle on the Education page.
